Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar inaugurated the state’s first Double-Dekar flyover in Patna on Wednesday afternoon, which is a Rs 422-million infrastructure project, which was aimed at reducing the crowd with the capital’s bustling Ashok Rajapath corridor.
The 2.2-km flyover spread from Kargil Chowk to Science College near Gandhi Maidan is called the first two-lane, direction-based double-day elevated corridor, which was completed by Bihar State Bridge Neeram Nigam Limited in only three years, which started from construction on 15 January, 2022.
Along with the metro and railway projects running in the flyover-city-“to make Patna’s transport system ready for the future” is being seen as a step, officials said that it will serve as an alternative route for vehicles entering Gandhi Setu and Krishna Ghat.
The unveiling comes ahead of the assembly elections in Bihar.
The project was completed on May 31, 2025 and has two levels with an 8.5-meter wide one-way car. The upper deck, at a distance of 2,175.50 meters, runs from Kargil Chowk to Science College, while the lower deck spreads up to 1,449.30 meters, connects the main gate of Patna College to Gandhi Maidan, allowing vehicles to be transferred to opposite directions at each level.

Officials said that the “specificity” of the Patna Double Decker flyover is with each one in the design of two different decks with handling one-way traffic.
This design expects to streamlines traffic flows for passengers, students and patients around areas such as NIT, PMCH, Science College and Patna University. The flyover integrates with the emerging metro network and JP Ganga Path in the city, in which both the ramps and a lift pit for the upcoming university metro station are already in progress. It increases connectivity to Gighat, Patna City and Kachchi Dargah serving as an alternative route for vehicles entering Gandhi Setu and Krishna Ghat.

Bihar Road Construction Minister Nitin Nabin said: “It will do much less traffic on one of the busiest parts of Patna, which will benefit thousands of daily passengers”.
Officials said that the schemes also include a proposed multi-level parking facility in Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH).
Another double-decker structure in Bihar announced that Patna flyover was expected to open soon. It was said that Bihar was the first project of its kind, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar set the Foundation of Patna Ashok Rajpath flyover on July 11, 2018 in December 2021. In a tweet on X, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said: “With the construction of this state -of -the -art flyover, traffic problems on Ashok Rajpath will be completely solved, and Patna’s traffic system will be very smooth.
