A criminal case was registered against Andhra Pradesh vice -president Pawan Kalyan, former Tamil Nadu BJP president K Annamalai and on 22 June against the leading organizers of Lord Murugan devotees held in Madurai.

The case filed at E3 Annagar police station cites violations of the sanctions of the Madras High Court on political and religious rhetoric during the high-profile spiritual program.

According to the Madurai police, the complaint was filed by S. Vanjinathan, a lawyer and coordinator of the Madurai People’s Federation for communal harmony. He alleged that the speeches and resolutions presented in the incident instigated communal enmity and violated the conditions set by the Madras High Court, which allowed the incident with strict limitations on religious and political messages.

Case – crime number 497/2025 – was registered under Section 196 (1) (A), 299, 302, and 353 (1) (B) (B) (2). The nominated accused include Kadeshwara Subramanian, President of Hindu Munnani, S. Muthukumar, its state secretary, Pawan Kalyan, Annamalai and RSS, BJP, Hindu Munnani and unknown organizing members of the union Parivar groups.

Police sources said that during the incident, speeches and electronic communication content included the language which “promoted enmity between groups based on religion, breed and region” and “Angered religious sentiments of other communities”. The FIR also alleges that the purpose of public remarks and works at the venue was intended to incite the spiritual assembly under the guise of the spiritual assembly. ,

A large -scale voting was observed in the program, in which Hindu Munnani claimed more than one million devotees in the presence, in the event, amidst a lot of pomp on a platform filled by the replicas of Lord Murugan’s six holy abodes (Arupadai Vidu). He criticized political leaders for questioning Pasampon Muthuramalinga Thewar as “the avatar of Lord Murugan” and a Murugan conference in Tamil Nadu.

The conference also passed six proposals, including a Hindu urging to vote for N Block in the upcoming assembly elections, and another stopped the DMK government “treating temples as revenue sources”.

Former BJP state head Annamalai, also named in the FIR, announced that the success of the conference revealed that “people have chosen ‘Swami’ on ‘Nidhli’ – a veil on political rivals.

Although BJP’s ally, AIADMK, officially kept quiet in the event, its four senior leaders, including RB Udayakumar and Selur’s Raju, attended the conference.
