As political parties have prepared for the upcoming Bihar assembly elections, a legal controversy involves writer Mrityunjay Sharma and former MP Sadhu Yadav.
Sharma, who wrote the book ‘Broken Promise’, has received a defamation notice of `5 crore from RJD chief Lalu Prasad’s brother -in -law, Sadhu Yadav. On June 18, a notice served by a law firm by Yadav accused Sharma of making harmful claims in his book and recent podcast interview. This demanded a public forgiveness and returned some references in the book and online interviews.
On Saturday, Sharma told The Indian Express that the book released last year is based on completely verified sources and not personal opinion. He said, “I am definitely not going to apologize for something that is based on facts and evidence. If they are not ashamed to do these things, why should I be ashamed to write about them?”
“Every line is referred to. It does not include any imagination or speculation,” he said.
“Two days ago, I received a legal notice. It asked me to apologize or face a huge fine. I have decided to make the whole matter public, because people should know what kind of person he is,” he said.
Sharma shared a legal notice on X and his public response.
According to Sharma, defamation notices items for three references in his book-a robbery incident during the marriage of Rohini Acharya, and a violent protest episode outside Bihar Bhavan in Delhi.

The author, also known for his widely operated political podcast, said that if necessary he is ready to defend himself in court. “If they go to court, I will fight it. There is no question of a personal disposal or back door waiver. I have a large amount of source material to prove every line I wrote,” he said.
Asked if Yadav approached him, Sharma said, “He called me a few months ago, but it was not threatening in nature. So I did not mention it in my original post. But yes, as a precautionary note, I mentioned that a call was received.”
