In Kochi on Saturday, CBI court acquitted former Lakshadweep MP and NCP National General Secretary Mohammad Faisal And in one case, two other people who illegally harm the islands and damage the Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL).
The former MP is the ninth accused in the case, while the other PP Hussain is a Thangal and Bapor Port Head Clerk Abdul Manf. Faisal and Thangal Shebna are partners of Enterprises, who had a license to import essential commodities to Lakshadweep.
The case was registered in 2009, and in 2011, the CBI accused nine accused under various sections of the prevention of the Corruption Act.
According to the CBI, while misusing the trade license, the accused took advantage of diesel at a subsidized rate from BPCL and sold fuel in the islands, causing a loss of Rs 1.4 crore to the public sector oil unit. Keeping in mind the lack of essential commodities in the islands, the Kerala government gave a 20 percent sales tax exemption to Lakshadweep. Accordingly, the state imposed only 4 percent tax for goods including diesel in the islands.
According to the CBI, diesel meant illegally sold in Kerala for Lakshadweep, and BPCL failed to ensure that the supply reached the islands. Earlier, the court acquitted six others, including BPCL officials. Advocate MJ Santosh appeared for the accused.
