Punjab workers accused J&K of 'police torture', 11 police issues notice to police. Bharat News

J&K and Ladakh High Court on Tuesday issued notices to Basohli, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Suresh Kumar, and after two workers from Punjab, 10 other police personnel filed a petition, alleging that they were “torture” in custody and were in custody in violation of the guidelines given by the Supreme Court.

The petition was filed by Pathankot residents Sukar Deen and Farid Mohammed, who alleged that police personnel had illegally detained at Atal Setu in Basohli on the afternoon of June 30 and were tortured “brutally” in custody.

His lawyer, Sheikh Shakeel Ahmed, attracted the attention of the court on the guidelines prescribed by the Supreme Court in the state of Arnesh Kumar V/S that no person would be detained/not arrested in cases where imprisonment is for seven years.

He presented that these police personnel, to justify their “illegal work”, were registered against two men. He also made photographs of injuries allegedly suffering by the petitioners during “police torture”.

He also referred to the order of Munsif (Judicial Magistrate IST class), Bahli, Bhanu Bhasin, when the petitioners were produced before the court on June 30, they demanded their police remand for five days.

Munsif saw that the accused persons were found with a remand application as per their medical examination report to the doctor not to fit medicalally by the doctor and the doctor mentioned the injuries on both the accused persons, the counsel for the petitioners.

In view of the deteriorating health status of both the accused, the judge had sent them to judicial custody for a period of five days instead of police custody, Ahmed said.
