Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which has delayed the latter scholarship for people of the “disgusting” terms and marginalized communities in residential hostels for Dalits, ST, EBC, OBC and minority students.

In his letter to Modi, Gandhi urged the PM to resolve these two important issues, which he said that 90 percent of the students are obstructed in education opportunities which are from the marginalized communities.

“First, conditions in residential hostels are disappointing for students of Dalit, ST, EBC, OBC and minority communities. Recently during a visit to Ambedkar Hostel in Darbhanga, Bihar, students complained about single rooms, who were forced to share 6-7 students, which were forced to work without thinking, without thinking, without thinking, without thinking, without thinking. Gandhi said, “Secondly, matric scholarship for marginal communities is plagued by delays and failures,” he claimed that the scholarship portal was non-functional for three years and no student received scholarship in 2021–22.

“Even after this, the number of Dalit students receiving the scholarship fell almost half to 0.69 lakhs in FY 23. The students complained of the financial year that the amount of the scholarship is humiliably low,” Gandhi said in his letter to Modi on 10 June.

Celebration offer

He said, “When I have cited examples from Bihar, these failures are widespread across the country. I urge the government to take two action immediately to remove these failures,” he said.

Gandhi called for an audit of every hostel for Dalits, Scheduled Tribes (ST), economically backward classes (EBCs), other backward classes (OBCs) and minority communities, so that they could ensure good infrastructure, hygiene, food and educational facilities for students so that they can ensure good infrastructure, cleanliness, food and educational facilities; And allocate enough money to remove the shortcomings.

He appealed for time to disburse the subsequent matric scholarship, increase the amount of scholarship, and improving execution by working closely with the state governments.

Gandhi said in his letter to Modi, “I am sure you agree that India cannot progress until the youth of the marginalized communities progress. I look forward to your positive response.”

The issues were also raised by Rajendra Pal Gautam, the head of the Congress’s SC department, Vikrant Bhuria, the head of the tribal Congress and Kanhaiya Kumar, in -charge of AICC NSUI, at a joint press conference at Indira Bhavan headquarters of Congress.

Kumar said that Gandhi is constantly meeting students, employees and teachers of Dalits, backward, tribal, extremely backward and minority classes.

Kumar said, “Whenever we meet the students of these classes, the first thing is that we do not receive our scholarship on time. The scholarship drop out is very high in the country, as the government has given a punishment to the entire scholarship process,” Kumar said.

He said, “Rahul Gandhi has written a letter to Prime Minister Modi on the scholarship of students, other problems and hostel terms. However, what action the government takes on it will be known only in the coming time,” he said.

Kumar said that student suicide is a big issue in the country in which two students commit suicide every hour.

“The government is continuously reducing the budget of education. In addition, the money of SC/ST sub-plan is also being turned by governments,” he said.

The result is that children are struggling for basic rights like education and this is a great injustice against the disadvantaged class, Kumar said.

In his comment in Pressor, Gautam said, “Recently, opposition leader Rahul Gandhi met Dr. Ambedkar Hostel in Darbhanga. Various hostel students came and met him. Rahul Gandhi said to be very sad and shocking them that 6-7 students are together in a room. There is no facility, and no good food.” Gautam said.

He claimed that children of SC/ST, EBC and minority class are forced to study under very poor conditions.

“Even their scholarship is not given, because sometimes the server of the government portal is down, sometimes it does not work at all,” he said.

Gautam also told the issue of suicides in the hostel, saying that the biggest reason for this is the poor financial condition of many children, in which parents take loans at high interest rates for child education.

“Children feel that they will study diligently, if they get a scholarship, they will repay the loan taken for study, but when the scholarship does not come, the loan continues to grow, then the children come under pressure and take steps like committing suicide. It is sad that the government is not serious in this matter,” he said.

Bhuria said that the foundation of ‘equal justice’ in this country is on the right to equal education.

“If we cannot provide equal education to children, then we cannot bring social revolution in the country. Today, the government is exploiting SC, ST, OBC category children, depriving them of education,” he said.
