Railways to install CCTV cameras in all passenger coaches, locomotives to increase security. Bharat News

In a step to investigate the miscreants and ensure the safety of passengers, the Railway Ministry has decided to install CCTV cameras in all coaches.

These high-end cameras, which will show clear footage at a speed of 100 kmph and also in low-light conditions, will also be installed in the locomotives.

A senior official said that the decision was taken in a review meeting organized by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav on Saturday.

To preserve the confidentiality of the passengers, CCTV cameras will be installed in the general movement area near the doors.

Currently, semi-high-speed trains like Vande Bharat, Tejas Express and Superfast Train Amrit Bharat Express are CCTV cameras.

The official said, “A test was conducted for the project in some coaches and locomotives in Northern Railway.

“Each railway coach will have a total of four dome -type CCTV cameras – two each at the entrance.

These cameras will be certified by the Directorate of Standards Testing and Quality Certification (STQC).

“These cameras will help the railway employees identify the miscreants. Keeping in mind the confidentiality of the passengers, these cameras will be installed only at the entrance of the coaches. In the meeting, it was also decided that it was also decided to find out the use of AI on data captured by CCTV cameras.”

Speaking to the Indian Express, a senior Northern Railway official said that the project was tested by the Delhi Division in some coaches.

“Each end of the test coach managed to reduce the number of cameras from the three (first research design and standard organization (RDSO) specifications at each end. The proposed place of two cameras helped cover all four doors in any AC coach at each end.

The official further said that so far CCTV cameras have been installed in 6,139 coaches in Northern Railway. These include 3,853 LHB coaches, 1,436 ICF coaches and 850 EMU/Memu/Demu coaches.

“Tenders for installation in all coaches were swimming on July 11. Three Northern Railway workshops will work for LHB coaches- Jagadhri, Alambagh for ICF coaches and Charbagh for EMU/MEMU/Demu coaches,” said the official.
