Police said on Thursday that a Rohingya man was arrested with a person in Kailashahar in Unakoti district of Tripura, in whose house he was found.
The person of Rohingya has been identified as Noor Mustafa and another arrested person as Abdul Wahid.
“We got secret information last night that a Citizen from Myanmar was hiding in Dhalarkandi. A police team conducted a raid at Wahid’s house and arrested Noor Mustafa and the owner of the house. Some touts helped him. We are trying to trace him. We sent him to court today.”
Police have come to know that Mustafa and her family left Myanmar for Bangladesh in 2012. In 2019, he came to India and worked in Hyderabad. He was planning to return to Bangladesh with the help of a tout.
Illegal immigrants from Bangladesh have been common in Tripura, even more since the Awami League government led by Sheikh Hasina after a rebellion after a decline in Dhaka last year. Vigil has since been tightened with the 856-km long border with Bangladesh, some of which are still unexpected due to local disputes.

According to the police, 816 Bangladeshi, 79 Rohingya persons and two Nigerians were arrested from January 1, 2024 till 28 February this year. After August 5, 2024, 483 of these arrests were made when the Hasina government collapsed.
