Officials said on Saturday that senior IPS officer Sonali Mishra has been nominated as the first woman Director General of Railway Protection Force (RPF).
He is the 1993 batch of Madhya Pradesh Cadre Indian Police Service (IPS) officer.
The appointment committee of the cabinet has approved the appointment of Mishra as DG, RPF till his supernation on 31 October 2026, an order issued by the Ministry of Personnel.
He will take charge of the post from Manoj Yadav on July 31, which is a supernut.
Officials said that Mishra would be the first female officer to lead the RPF, which has been entrusted with the responsibility of railway property and safety of passengers, with other duties, the officials said.

He is currently posted as Additional Director General (Selection), Madhya Pradesh Police.
The RPF was formed in 1957 by an Act of Parliament. This force can be interrogated, arrest and prosecution of criminals involved in illegal occupation of railway property in 1966. It was given the status of “An armed forces of the Sangh” on 20 September 1985.

Mishra was appointed the first female commander for the head of BSF formation along the Indo-Pakistan border in Punjab in July 2021.
Mishra has led the formation of force in the Kashmir Valley as Inspector General (IG) besides BSF’s intelligence wing. He also worked as ADG in BSF.
Mishra is the recipient of PPMDS (President’s Police Medal for prestigious service) and PMM (Police Medal for Meritorious Service).
