She started running an auto at the age of 18, now she is the first female bus driver of Telangana RTC India News

The Road Transport Corporation of Telangana has found its first female driver, which is on a contract basis.

The first woman to run the bus for TGSRTC, Hyderabad, V. Sarita to Maryalaguda in Nalgonda district, told the Indian Express, “I could not become a driver out of passion for driving. I became a driver because I wanted to provide for my family.”

Sarita, 38, is a tribal woman whose family is dependent on her. “I first started in 2004 as an auto driver on the Narayanpur-Chotuppal route,” she said. She was only 18 years old at that time.

“I am the only daughter of my parents who were daily wages laborers. I had to leave school and work because they could not end,” she said. He has studied up to class 10. His younger brother was not born when he started working.

Sarita then met an NGO in Delhi. “I was told that in Delhi, I would not get a driving job, from which I would not be removed. He said it would be permanent,” Sarita remembered. She moved to Delhi in 2011 and started running an auto in the national capital. Want to improve his standard of living, then he got a heavy vehicle license. “I realized that there is more money in driving heavy vehicles and decided to get a heavy vehicle license,” he said. As of 2015, she was driving as a contract bus driver at the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC). “I did not get a permanent job, but used to earn around Rs 30,000 per month. But Delhi is an expensive city,” he said.

He spent most of his earnings on housing and food. “I also had to send money home. I managed to save very little – next to nothing,” she said.

He worked for 10 years in Delhi. “I was leaving, driving through the busy roads of the capital. The government was assistant, although he did not give me a permanent job,” he said.

On the decision to return to her home state, Sarita said, “I have to try to become permanent again. Also, I wanted to be close to my parents, who live in Hyderabad.”

It has been only two months when she moved to Hyderabad and she has already worked. The JBM electric vehicle, which drives 500 buses in a contract with TGSRTC, employed it.

Sarita said, “The government has been very active in trying to accommodate me. The government decided to give me a contract job first. They would definitely consider me for a permanent post, when I get used to Telangana roads,” Sarita said.

When contacted, TGSRTC officials said no decision was yet taken when the fleet would be able to accommodate Sarita on permanent basis.

“My mother cannot walk because she had to face a fracture for her hip two years ago. I want to be with her and take care of her. I hope I will get a permanent job soon,” Sarita said.
