Between January 2024 and June 2025, Cyber Criminal cheated 1,301 people in Chhattisgarh worth Rs 107.03 crore. During the same period, the police managed to recover only Rs 3.69 crore (3.36%) in 107 cases.
These figures were shared by state Home Minister Vijay Sharma in response to a question of BJP MLA Sunil Kumar Soni of Raipur City in the state assembly.
Soni said, “Thousands of people are being cheated. Some victims are moving towards suicide.”
The data presented revealed that Raipur alone calculated Rs 47.57 crore – the highest in 33 districts of Chhattisgarh. This was followed by Rs 10.20 crore with Bilaspur and Digj with Rs 9.65 crore. “I believe that the amount in Raipur is more than Rs 47.57 crore. Is the police capable of handling cyber crimes? Also, you have said that bank officials are also involved in such crimes – so are any action taken on them?” Soni asked.
In response, Home Minister Sharma said, “The work of reducing a cyber expert is going on. But the concept of cyber commandos has been implemented. Cyber police units have received training in each district.”

Expanding the steps taken by the government, the Home Department said: “For the prevention of cyber crimes, a state cyber police station and five range cyber police stations are working at the border level. Cyber cells are also working at the district level and in some districts, approval has been received for cyber police stations.”
It states that a cyber forensic lab equipped with modern equipment is functional at the police headquarters in Raipur to test the digital evidence collected during the investigation.

“For the development of cyber crime research capacity, police officers/employees are being trained on complex subjects on complex subjects like prestigious institutions of the country such as C-DAC, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy from time to time. A gazetted officer and five other officers of the state have been trained under cyber crime.”
It has also been said that SIM cards and IMEI numbers involved in cyber crimes are being blocked, and awareness programs are being organized at the state and district levels.
On efforts to refund the stolen money, the department said: “The National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (NCRP) is operated to provide immediate registration of complaints to the victims of cyber crime. Cyber Crime Helpline Number 1930 is a suspect of 24/7 in the state. Gateway.
Responding to a separate question by the BJP MLA of Durg City, Gajendra Yadav, Sharma said, “In the state, the complaints of 67,389 have been received on NCRP (January 2023 to June 2024). According to the portal, the amount of theft is around Rs 791 crore.
