A section of the border wall at Rewa Airport in Madhya Pradesh collapsed till late Friday, when the area received rapid rainfall, expressing concern over the quality of construction at the recent opening facility.
Officials said the collapse occurred after a magic of heavy rains, overflowing rivers in Reva district, submerging low-fold urban areas and displacing several families. The high-veg water stream broke a large portion of the wall of the airport circumference, pushed a steep car several feet and to swim motorcycles in flood waters.
Airport officials confirmed that about 5 feet of water entered the premises during the night.
Navneet Chaudhary, senior manager of Rewa Airport, said, “Like what we had experienced last year, due to provoking water at the airport from nearby Umri village. The affected section is the lowest height of the boundary wall.”
Buced at a cost of about Rs 500 crore, Rewa Airport was inaugurated last year by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with a major infrastructure milestone for the Vindhya region. However, even before its official launch, questions were raised about the structural integrity of convenience.
In response to the allegations, airport officials said that the wall failure was not due to construction defects, but for extreme weather events.
Chaudhary said, “We cannot fully blame the quality of construction. Did we already knew about the high flow of water from the village, we must have installed the grills to the height of half the wall.” He further stated that the damaged part would be reconstructed with modifications, including the installation of grills, which would allow rainwater to pass without pressure on the structure.

“This will not happen next time, because the water passes through the grill and the pressure will not come on the wall,” he said.
