Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Sunday shared the design of the upcoming Janak Temple at Panthora Dham near Sitamari district, it is believed that it is the birthplace of Goddess Sita. The Chief Minister also announced the constitution of a temple trust to accelerate construction and redevelopment work at Panthora Dham since December 2023.
Sharing the news on social media, Nitish said, “It gives us great pleasure to declare that the birthplace of Mother Sita, Panthora Dham, Design for the widespread development of Sitamarhi, is now complete. The design includes a grand temple and other structures, which we are working with you. The construction of the magnificent temple is a pride and good luck for all of us, the construction of the magnificent temple.”
Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced Nitish three months after promising at an event in Ahmedabad that a Grand Sita temple will soon be constructed in Sitamarhi. Sources in the Bihar government said that due to this October-November, most of the construction and improvement of the temple will be over before the state assembly elections.
The temple design shows the main temple, Sita Kund (pond) with stairs stairs on all four sides, a large hall and a visiting area for attention. All connecting roads are also being developed from the pilgrim site. In addition, thematic gates and parking areas are being constructed around the pilgrim site.
In September 2023, when Nitish’s JD (U) was a part of the India block, he announced a development plan for the Sita temple in Sita Manam, which is 6 km from Sitamari, and sought the help of the Center in its construction. On 13 December 2023, he laid the foundation stone for the overall development of Punara Dham Janaki Temple.
When Nitish returned to NDA Guna in January 2024, the government insisted that the Janaki temple would be a part of the upcoming Ramayana circuit, which connects Ayodhya to Sitamari and Janakpuri.
