A multi-party delegation in the India Block met the Election Commission to meet the Election Commission, which to express concern about the special intensive amendment of the electoral rolls in the pol-bound Bihar, on Thursday, the Congress alleged that the exercise was to disintegrate about 2 crore votes, which could be unable to present the documents sought by the poll panel.
At a press conference at AICC headquarters, Pawan Khera, president of the Congress’s Media and Publicity Department, alleged that special intensive amendment “was a clear conspiracy to disintegrate and vote for the voters of Bihar.
Khera said, “The way the EC is being run is a serious threat to democracy – not only against the opposition, but against each voter,” Khera said, “With all humility on my command, I warns EC that Shakti is a momentary thing. Why are you doing so much to have been witnessing them (BJP)? It would be better if you follow the constitution.”
Bihar PCC president Rajesh Kumar alleged that special intensive amendment was “attempted to take away the basic voting rights of voters of Bihar”. Claiming that there would be practical difficulties in practicing in just one month, he alleged that “it seems as if he (EC) has resolved to overcome the rights of 20% of Bihar’s voters”. He claimed that the growing popularity of the Congress and its leader Rahul Gandhi in Bihar was “step to disintegrate about about 2 crore voters”.
He questioned how the pole panel would reach more than 3 crore people, who have gone to Delhi, Mumbai, Punjab and Haryana for livelihood.
In-charge Krishna Alvaru in Bihar Congress is being put on the people for another “arbitrary decision” of PM Narendra Modi-Left government. “It is clear that the Election Commission is showing interest in removing people from the voter list. This is a conspiracy in which people’s right to vote will be taken away.”
In a statement on Thursday, the EC said it said that it met representatives of Congress, RJD, SP, DMK, NCP (SCP), JMM, CPI (M), CPI (ML) Mukti, CPI and Shiv Sena (UBT) and told them on Wednesday that special intensive amendment drives were being operated as a planned. Chief Election Commissioner Gyanash Kumar asked the parties to appoint more booth level agents to help the voters. The poll panel states that in the first phase, from 25 June to 3 July, about 7.9 crore voters are being printed and distributed in Bihar.
