An internal email by the Wildlife Institute of India (WII) has participated in a dispute after warning that the salaries of the employees absent for the International Yoga Day incident on Saturday in its offices can be stopped until a valid written interpretation is submitted and verified.

This email was sent by the Registrar of Dehradun-based Central Government Institute on Monday morning. It created a stir, another email was sent in the afternoon stating that the previous one was withdrawn.

WII employees, permanent and constructive, were asked to submit clarification to their sectional head or deputy registrar. Email said Email asked the Finance Officer to release the salary for the month of June, until the attendance record, the details of the tour, or a valid written interpretation and verified, the email said.

Then at 1.54 pm on Monday, another email said that the last one stand has been withdrawn.

The registrar of the institute, J Johnson, said the morning email was sent to ensure “professional conduct” among the employees, and the ministry was not instructed. “As administration, we expect time ban and discipline, which is why the email was sent. We did not plan any action. Yoga Day was an institutional incident, and I wanted the employees to participate,” he said.

Prior to Saturday’s incident, on the same email thread, the registrar asked the employees to wear white clothes and take a personal yoga mats to celebrate the day.

Employees of the institute said that participation on Yoga Day has always been voluntary in the institute. The registrar also said that it has not been made mandatory.
