Supreme Court on Wednesday hearing a petition challenging the order of Madras High Court Arrest direction Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) of Tamil Nadu HM Jayaram regarding the alleged kidnapping of a teenage boy.
The case was mentioned before a bench of Justice Ujjal Bhuyan and Manmohan on Tuesday, which agreed to take on Wednesday.
On Monday, the Madras High Court ordered Jairam’s arrest, and criticized Kilwithinakappam (SC) MLA ‘Pavai’ M Jagan Murthy for “misusing” his political power in connection with the alleged kidnapping case.
Justice P Velmurugan asked the Tamil Nadu Police to detain ADGP Jairam and proceed according to the law. Justice Velmurugan also commented that public servants like him were “accountable to the public”, and a strong message should go out that “no one is above the law”.
Jairam was arrested after the court came out of the building.
The court, which was hearing Jagan Murthy’s anticipatory bail plea in the afternoon session, refrained the MLA from giving any relief and instead directed him to cooperate fully with the investigation. The judge warned that strict action would be followed if the MLA failed to do so.
