Officials said on Monday that a 19 -year -old youth was allegedly detained or harassed and built to drink water from a toilet at Sohra police station in East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya, resulting in serious injuries.
The victim’s mother, Mildrade Jirwa, has filed a formal complaint with SP Vivek Sim, demanding justice and accountability.
In her cedar, Jirwa said that on July 3, the police came in search of her son Getwin a few days ago along with her son Getwin.
According to officials, she along with her son also went to Sohra police station around 9 am.
“For my shock, my son came out of the police station around 2 pm with serious injuries. I took him to Sohra CHC from where he was sent to Shillong Civil Hospital. He is in the hospital since then,” he said.

He questioned the police conduct, claiming, “If my son had committed a crime, the appropriate procedure should have been followed. He was subjected to the third degree torture inside the police station before he was released. It shows that his human rights were violated, causing severe mental and physical damage.” Recalling his ordinance, Gatewin alleged that after taking custody, he was beaten by the police and then threw it into a lockup.
“When I asked for water, they refused. I was forced to drink water from the toilet,” he claimed.

In response to the complaint, the police department has initiated an investigation.
DGP Idshisha Nongrang said SDPO Pynursla B Wanswet has been appointed as investigating officer.
The SP said that once the facts have been fully discovered, all necessary and appropriate action will be taken against the people found guilty.
The incident has expressed widespread concern, a transparent and fair investigation into the matter with human rights groups and civil society organizations.
