RSS general secretary Dattatreya Hosabale on Thursday asked not only to apologize to the country for imposing Congress Emergency But a strong pitch was created to discuss whether the words “socialist” and “secular” should remain in the preamble of the Constitution during emergency days.
Dr. Addressing a gathering at Ambedkar International Center, Hosabale, refraining from mentioning the Congress, he said, “Those who did this (put this emergency) are roaming with the constitution in their hands. They have not apologized to the country for this. They should apologize for this. If your ancestors do so, if your ancestors did so, then apologize on their arms.”
In 1976, the 42nd constitutional amendment, through which the word “socialist” and “secular” were included in the preamble, Hosabale said, “Socialist and secular words were added to the preamble. Later no attempt was made to remove them.
During the Lok Sabha elections, many India block leaders, especially Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had waved a copy of the Constitution in various rallies, alleging that PM Narendra Modi-led government “was trying to change it”.
At the event, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari was the chief guest along with journalist Ram Bahadur Rai and former BJP leader KN Govindacharya, as he actively participated in the agitation by Emergency accused Jayaprakash Narayan in 1975.
It was necessary, Hosabale said that the dates of 25 June and 26 June do not have clubs of “Old Boys Club” discussions among those who were thrown into jails during 21 months of emergency, but “opportunities to spread information about the period about that period, so that the emergency mentality never returns to the country”. He called upon the Sangh’s Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) to organize study circles in universities to spread awareness about the Emergency.
Hosabale said that during that period thousands of people were put in jail and tortured, the independence of the judiciary and the media was also stopped.

He remembered that Atal Bihari Vajpayee and LK Advani were arrested outside the guest house in Bangalore on the morning of 26 June 1975, where they were kept for a parliamentary committee meeting.
“Advani ji said that he wants to call PTI and Uni to make a statement, and Atal ji asked him who would be ready to publish it?” Hosabale remembered, but said that the people of India proved their maturity as democracy in those testing times.
Gadkari also recalled that when he went to secure parole for his maternal uncle so that he could perform his maternal grandfather’s funeral, he had to wait outside the police station all night. He insisted that the emergency story needs to be withdrawn for the youth so that it is not forgotten.
