Tiger gets trapped in the farmer's house, saved by forest officials

On Wednesday, an adult royal Bengal tiger got stuck after entering a farmer’s house in a village in Ranchi district of Jharkhand, causing panic in the area, but was later rescued by forest officials.
The incident occurred in the Mardu village of Silli block, close to the inter-state border with West Bengal, about 65 km from the state capital Ranchi.

Ranchi Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Srikanth Verma told PTI, “The tiger entered the house of a Purandar Maho around 5 am when he stepped out after opening the door of the house.”

When he saw the animal entering a room in the house, he closed the door from outside, Verma said.
He said that when the tiger was entered, two girls were inside the house at the age of about eight, but they managed to get out safely.

The official said that a rescue team of Palamou Tiger Reserve (PTR) reached the place, and conducted a rescue operation, successfully to trap the animal and canning, the officer said.

He said, “It was pacified after closing. It was loaded on a vehicle and will be taken to the Birsa Zoo in Ranchi, where it would be kept under observation,” he said.

Verma said that if the animal was found to be healthy, it would be left in a safe place, which perhaps Palamou Tiger Reserve.

“However, the decision to free the animal will be taken later,” he said.

A zoo official said that a team from Lord Birsa Biological Park, also known as Birsa Zoo in Omanji, Ranchi, also went to the spot.

Ashok Kumar Singh said, “A veterinarian, compounder and a biologist were sent to the site to provide their expertise.”

“The tiger was successfully rescued and its health status seems to be good,” a veterinarian OP Sahu of the Birsa Zoo told PTI. Verma said that to ensure a smooth rescue operation, prohibitive orders were placed within 200 meters of Maho’s house.

He said, “We suspect that the tigers are adjacent to West Bengal. This village is very close to the inter-state border and there is a big forest in Purulia district.”

The owner of the house said that two children, including his daughter, were sleeping inside the room.

“I woke up around 4.30 am and asked my daughter to get the cattle out of the shed. Suddenly, a big animal entered the house. It was roaring and I understood that it was a tiger. I took another girl safely, one of my relative’s daughters who was sleeping, outside the house and the room closed the room,” Sayed “Maho said.

Maho said that he called one of his relatives and told them about the situation and informed the officials concerned.
