Tipra Motha-Sutar-suttar-led coalition has demanded detection and exile from Bangladesh living in Tripura.

The party’s four -member delegation led by MLA Ranjit Debbarma met Governor N Indrasena Reddy and increased the demand on Friday.

“We met the governor today. The issue is that the Union Home Ministry has set a 30-day deadline to start the process. Detection and exile of illegal migrants in TripuraIn other states including Delhi, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Assam, the process has started. We have demanded that the process be started in Tripura as well, ”Debbarma told reporters after meeting Governor Reddy.

He said that a similar notification was also issued in 2017.

Earlier, Debbarma wrote the Center’s Home Minister Amit Shah on illegal entry of Bangladeshi citizens, urging them to push them back.

The Twipra Students Federation (TSF) has also demanded that the government start the process of detecting and deporting Bangladeshi migrants living illegally in the state.

TSF said, “We have seen other states doing so.

According to a Tripura Police report, 816 Bangladeshi citizens, 79 Rohingya persons and two Nigerians were arrested between 1 January 2024 and 28 February for illegally living in Tripura this year.

Another breakup of data suggests that 483 illegal foreigners were arrested from August 5, 2024, when the Sheikh Hasina government fell in Bangladesh.
