Madhya Pradesh DGP Kailash Makwana has said that dealing with the issue of rape is not possible for the police alone, and argued that there was a moral decline in the society amid the spread of alcohol and the availability of “pornographic materials” on the Internet.

After presiding over the review meeting of the police force on Saturday, the state police chief told reporters, “There are many reasons (for rape incidents). In my view, these internet, mobile phones, pornographic content, alcohol, and people can connect anywhere through mobile phones.

On the reasons for the increase in rape incidents, the DGP said, “The kind of vulgarity that is being served through the Internet has been distorting young minds from an early age, and this, undoubtedly, one of the reasons behind the increase in such incidents.”

The DGP claimed that there was a gradual decline in moral values even inside the houses, and said that when children listen to their parents and teachers, they leave for a long time.

“We are seeing that even inside the houses, people are not monitoring each other. Earlier, the children used to listen to their teachers and parents. There was a feeling of shame or respect, but many of those boundaries have disappeared now,” he said.
