Tripura High Court settled PIL on steps taken by the state government to address illegal immigration, petitioners have been asked to wait for India news

The Tripura High Court on Thursday disposed of a PIL petition about the steps taken by the state government to address illegal immigration from Bangladesh and Myanmar, asking the petitioners to wait for some time.

“The court heard us. The court settled our position and asked us to wait for some time to see their answer. We will wait for three-four months what action the state takes action. If the state takes action, we will be satisfied. And the court has given us freedom to re-coming for HC,” a worker.

The advocate said that the petitioners gave a representation to the state on 24 June, asking how the government was going to implement a notification from the Ministry of Home Affairs, which directed all the states to work against illegal migrants in four phases, which in four stages, advent, detention and exile.

The advocate said that the petitioners wanted the direction of a court for the state government to set up a strong infrastructure required to implement four stages.

“These four stages require infrastructure. It is available in Assam, but not in Tripura. For example, if a person is caught on suspicion that he is an illegal immigrant, a court needs to decide the case. This court is called an foreign tribunal. An illegal immigrant, where will he be held, he needs to be held …”

Speaking to Indianexpress.com, Advocate-General Shaktimoy Chakraborty said, “The High Court disposed of the petition on the basis of merit, as the government was not given enough time since the representation was submitted on the same issue.”

The state government has recently identified illegal immigration amidst its drug threat and human trafficking as well as its major concerns.
