On Wednesday, a Tripura court gave a 20 -year imprisonment to a man who raped his minor step -daughter. He was also ordered to pay a fine of Rs 5,000, which fails to serve the additional jail period of two months.
Government lawyer Ashmita Banik said that the incident took place in West Tripura district in August 2023. “Although her mother was about to support her in this condition, she ran away with her (of rape-country) stepfather. The minor’s elder sister, who lives in South Tripura district, came to know about the incident and filed a complaint,” the lawyer said.
The minor rape survivor is living in a shelter house.
His stepfather was found guilty by the court under Section 6 of Protection of Sexual Offs (POCSO) Act and Indian Penal Code Section 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation). The court investigated 19 witnesses during the trial.
The court also ordered that the survivors of rape be compensated under Section 357 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
