In a press briefing, White House Press Secretary Karolin Lewitt said that the US and India are very close to a trade deal, and the terms of the deal are currently being finalized. He also said that relations between the two countries are strong, and there is a strong personal relationship between Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Earlier, Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said on June 10 that India and the US are negotiating on a fair and justified trade agreement that will benefit both economies.
Describing India and America as a “very close friend”, Goyal said during a press briefing, “PM Narendra Modi and US President Trump met in February 2025 … Our two leaders have decided to enter a bilateral trade agreement, which will be transitically beneficial for both sides, businesses of both countries.
During a press briefing last month, Donald Trump said that a “major” trade deal with India is in the tasks, as the conversation between the two countries remains in work.
