Former Telangana Chief Minister and Bharat President Samithi (BRS) leader K Chandrashekhar Rao (KCR) appeared before the PC Ghosh Commission at BRK Bhawan in Hyderabad on Tuesday morning.
The panel Kaleshwaram is investigating the alleged irregularities in the concept and implementation of the lift irrigation project (KLIP), which is considered as the brain yield of KCR and the Crown Jewel of the BRS government which was in power in the state from 2014 to 2023.
Speaking at BRK Bhavan, which was surrounded by KCR party workers, KT Ram Rao, the working president of BRS and son of KCR, said: “Kaleshwaram project has about 100 components and an accident occurred on two barrage of the project. The truth will be revealed after KCR’s statement and it will respond to a custody for the right time. Reddy will not be able to measure KCR that can imagine and implement the Kaleshwaram project on a large scale “.
The clip on the Godavari river across the border from Maharashtra in Jaishankar Bhupalpali district of Telangana was to supply water for irrigation, industrial and domestic use in northern Telangana. The project was to come from the huge water bulk – 195 TMC – Medigada barrage. Twenty TMC was to come from the Sripada Yalempalli project, and there would be another 25 TMC ground water.
While the work on Kaleshwaram project started in June 2019, on October 21, 2023, one of the columns – number 20 of Block 7 of the drowning of Medigada barrage, which caused floods. The commission was established after this incident.

KCR was the Chief Minister of Telangana at the time of the incident.
Prior to KCR, Etela Rajendra who was former Finance Minister and Harish Rao, the former Irrigation Minister removed the post before the Commission. Rajendra, who is now a BJP MP, later said that the Commission had quipped him on financial decisions regarding the clip.

He said: “I informed the Commission that the Kaleshwaram project would not be physical without the cabinet sub-committee, which recommended to re-design many components”. He said that documents supporting his statements would be made public soon.
Later, when Harish Rao appeared before the Commission, he said that the clip was made essential for “Tumididi Hati to Medigdda to Covense point”, due to frequent protests from Maharashtra, lack of water and ecological concerns “and not” due to alleged reasons by the Congress government “.
After the October 2023 accident, a National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA) team examined the Sunken Pillar and held an evaluation meeting with L&T, a company that carried out the project. On February 13, 2024, the Congress -led Telangana government asked the NDSA to “intensive inspection of the design and construction of three barrage of the project”. The NDSA visited all three barrage for inspections and studied next month.
On 29 April this year, the state government announced that NDSA “proper geo-technical investigation, design deficiency, construction defects, modeling studies failure, structural crisis, strong quality control, operation and maintenance failures were ignored, (and) Dam security aspects (and that). It has been said, “Serious settlement in Block -7 and Cracking of Pierce with remarkable inclination”.

The PC Ghosh Commission is also looking into the alleged floods of barrage, NSDC report and statements of prominent leaders.
