You Tirot Sing Simp, a major 19th world of India, was the freedom fighter of Sadi and the present day Meghalaya, the head of Nongkhala in the Khasi hills of India.
He was recognized as one of the Northeast Indian leaders opposing British expansion and was against colonial imposition, laying the foundation of the struggle of Northeast India for autonomy.
Their sacrifice is remembered every year on 17 July and is marked as U Tirot Sing Day.
