Late on Sunday night, Odisha Police arrested Udit Pradhan, the state unit president of the National Students Union (NSUI) for allegedly raping a 19 -year -old student. He will be produced in court on Monday.
According to police sources, the survivor alleged that Pradhan raped her on March 18 after giving some intoxicating substances in a hotel. A police officer said that based on the statement of the survivor, the first information report (FIR) was registered and the accused was arrested.
The Pradhan has been booked under Section 64 (1) (Rape), 123 (due to injury through poison), 296 (porn acts and songs), 74 (using criminal forces against a woman), and 351 (2) (2) (2) (2) (2) (2) (2) (2) (2) (2) (2) (2) (2) (2) (2) (2) (2) (2) (2) (2) (2) (2) (2) (2) (2) (2) (2) (2) (2) (2) (2) (2) (for criminal intimacy) has been booked under the Bharati Justice (BNS).
The arrest took place at a time when the Congress party has carried forward its attack on recent issues of crime against women in Odisha, including the death of a student in a major college in Balasore. The Congress remains to be issued a statement on the latest development.
