The accused terrorist group ULFA (I) claimed that at least three senior leaders were killed in drone attacks by the Indian Army in their camps in Myanmar in the early hours of Sunday, in which the army denied knowledge of any such operation.
A statement issued by ULFA (i) claimed that several camps along with the Indo-Myanmar border took place in several camps between 2 pm and 4 pm on Sunday, and that its “Lieutenant General” Nayan Medi alias Nayan Asom was killed in these and another 19 was injured.
It claimed that one and two senior officials, “Brigadier” Ganesh Asom and “Colonel” Pradeep Asom were later killed in a missile attack, while Nayan Asom was being cremated.
A statement was reportedly issued through another lieutenant Ishan Asom with one self-style, which warns of vengeance. “Professional forces are continuing attacks in areas using fighter jets. We inform the indigenous people of Assam that we are firm to avenge the brutal attack by the colonial nation,” said this.
When contacted, the defense spokesperson Lt Col Mahendra Rawat, located in Guwahati, said: “There is no input with the Indian Army on such an operation.”

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also refused to know about such an operation, when it was asked by reporters in Golaghat. “Assam Police is not involved in this and no operation was done with the soil of Assam. Usually when such incidents happen, there is a statement of the Indian Army, but they have not released it yet. It will probably be more clear on it later,” he said.
ULFA (i), under the leadership of Paresh Barua, is known for its camps in Myanmar and has opposed coming to the table for negotiations without discussing sovereignty for Assam. In December 2023, a Pro-Talk faction of ULFA signed a tripartite peace agreement with the Union and the State Government.
