Police said that about twenty -four hours after the body of a minor from a forest area near her house in West Tripura district, her mother’s uncle and a neighbor were arrested on Monday for allegedly raping and killing the girl.
Talking to reporters on Tuesday, an official of the local police station said: “We have arrested two persons accused of involvement in the crime,” and said they will participate in the petition to send both the accused to police custody with a petition before the local court.
Officials said the girl lived in her homes with her brothers who were located close to her mother’s residence.
According to the police, the murder is likely to be held on Friday night, although further investigation is going on to determine the exact time and cause of death.
An official said, “We got information on Monday that a dead body was found in the forest. Our police team reached the spot and found that the girl’s relatives took her body to her house. We started their investigation from there,” an officer said.
The girl’s brother lodged a complaint at the local police station on Sunday, on the basis of which the police registered a case under Section 103/1 (murder) of the Indian Judge (BNS) and Section 8 (sexual harassment) of protection of children from sexual offenses.
During the preliminary investigation, the police found no bruises on the body of the deceased girl except for some blood on the lower limbs.
