The forest department said that a tiger and a stray dog fell into a abandoned well in Idukki district of Kerala on Sunday morning, both animals were shot and rescued with tranquilizer darts, said the forest department.
The incident occurred with Tamil Nadu in a Ilayayam garden in Miladampra, close to Kerala border, in Wandanamedu, Idukki.
In the morning, the residents heard a dog barking and found that it was trapped in a well with a two -year -old male tiger.
Later in the afternoon, a veterinary team of the Periyar Tiger Reserve led by R Anuraj darted the tiger and dog before bringing them out of both from the well.
Kottayam Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Mg Ajith said the tiger did not get any injuries. He said, “We suspect that the tiger has wandered from the Tamil Nadu forest to the human settlement. The villagers of the Mayladampra had not reported the presence of the tigers,” he said that it would be released to the Periyar Tiger Reserve in Kerala.

The DFO said that the tiger might have chased the stray dog and fell into the well. He said, “During getting stuck in the well, neither the tiger nor the dog attacked each other. We have similar incidents when non -vegetarian animals and their prey are trapped. In such circumstances, these animals do not try to attack their prey,” he said.
Images broadcast on TV channels showed the two animals lying close to each other.
