Maoist leaders surrendered between three killed in Bijapur, Chhattisgarh. Bharat News

Three residents of a village – two belonging to a senior Naxal cadre who surrendered this year and related to another security personnel – were killed by Maoists in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh on Tuesday evening, police said.

Around 4 pm, a group of Maoists went to Nayapara in Pedkorma village, about 15 km from the Bijapur police headquarters and four kilometers from a security camp, where they allegedly attacked several other villagers.

Two of the victims belonged to a senior Naxal cadre, 36 -year -old Dinesh Mudiyam, a former Dandakarnya Special Zonal Committee (DKSZC), who surrendered with his wife in March this year. The third victim belongs to an officer of the State Police Force.

Police claimed that the leader of the accused in the case was once subordinate to Mudiaam.

Mudiyam, who belongs to Nayapara, has 26 murder cases against him and was also allegedly involved in attacks where seven security personnel were killed and three were injured. Police sources said that cases against Mudiaam can be “taken back on the basis of their cooperation and behavior”.

This year, at least 18 civilians, who were alleged by the Maoists that the police informers were killed. Last year, 71 citizens were killed by Maoists, with 20-odd deaths due to IED explosions.

The number of Maoists killed so far in Chhattisgarh this year is 211, including the Bastar region in 194. Last year, 219 Maoists were killed in Chhattisgarh, including 217 in Bastar region.

Maoists have also killed 18 security personnel, including an additional Superintendent of Police, Akash Rao Girpunje from Sukma district.

Police say many Maoists of Gangalur have surrendered in the last two years. The region has been a major recruitment ground for Maoists, many of them have been killed not only in the settlement, but also in neighboring states like Odisha, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh.
