The Center expanded the tenure of Home Secretary Govind Mohan till August 2026. Bharat News

The appointment committee of the cabinet has approved the expansion of the tenure of Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan till August 22, 2026.

This expansion comes at a time when the country is preparing for the mega census with the census of the caste and amidst the resolve to end Maoism by the Union Home Ministry by March next year.

The 1989 batch IAS officer of Mohan, Sikkim cadre was named Union Home Secretary in August 2024. He took charge from Ajay Kumar Bhalla on the completion of his tenure on August 22, 2024.

On Friday, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved Mohan’s expansion as Home Secretary on September 30, 2026 or by further orders, as Home Secretary, the provisions of the fundamental rules or the All India Services Rules, 1958 in the context of FR56 and Rule 16, the order issued by the Ministry of Personnel.

BHU-IIT, an electrical engineer from Varanasi, Mohan has served as the Union Culture Secretary since October 2021 and had two stents in MHA in the past.
