The Meteorological Department of India (IMD) said on Thursday that heavy rainfall is expected in at least 12 districts of Odisha under the influence of the low pressure area formed in the Bay of Bengal.
The Bhubaneswar Regional Center of IMD said on X, “The remains of the tropical cyclone ‘Pipha’ have emerged and under its influence, a low pressure area has been formed in the northern Gulf of Bengal at 5.30 am on Thursday.”
The low pressure area is likely to be well marked during the next 24 hours and is likely to move towards west-north-west towards North Odisha during the next 48 hours and move to the banks of West Bengal.
Under the influence of the system, various districts of Odisha will receive heavy rainfall by July 28.
Prose for the heavy decline, the IMD Center has issued an orange warning (ready to take action) for the Mayurbhanj, Kenjhar, Malakangiri and Koraaput districts for Thursday.

Similarly, yellow warning (being aware) has been issued for Sundargarh, Deogarh, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jajpur, Dhankanal, and Angul districts, as it will experience heavy rainfall and thunder with electricity and winds in the districts.
Bulletin said that with electricity and winds (30–40 km per hour), thunder is also expected in Cuttack, Jagat Singhpur, Puri, Khurda, Nigarh, Ganjam and Gajapati districts.

Since the position of the sea is expected to remain rough, it has advised fishermen not to enter the sea till 27 July.
During this monsoon period (1 June to 24 July), the state received a cumulative rainfall of 533.3 mm against the normal value of 466.7 mm. Ten districts have received more rainfall, while 17 districts got normal recession and the remaining three districts were put under the reduction category by IMD.
