Amid increasing opposition to his comments on Kannada language, actor-royalty Kamal Haasan approached the Karnataka High Court, seeking security to ensure the smooth release of its latest film ‘Thug Life’ in the state. The move follows a warning from the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) that the film will be stopped from release until Haasan releases a formal apology on his comment that ‘Kannada was born out of Tamil’.
The thugs set to hit the screen on 5 June, the film’s audio launch in Chennai on May 24 is trapped in Crosshair after Hassan’s comment. Addressing the program, Haasan said, “Tamil gave birth to Kannada,” immediately sparking backlash in Karnataka.
Pro-Canada organizations demanded contradiction in cities including Bengaluru, Belgavi, Habbali and Mysuru. 70 -year -old Haasan later clarified in Chennai that his comment stems from “love” for the language, “I think what I said was said with great love. Historians have taught me the history of the language … I didn’t mean anything.”
On Thursday, Kannada and Culture Minister Shivraj Tangdgi wrote to KFCC, urging that all the films characteristic of Hassan be banned in Karnataka, if he fails to apologize. “Despite the stature of the actor, the people of Karnataka cannot tolerate their comments on their land, water and language,” said Tanggi.
He added, “His speech about Kannada language has hurt me and the feelings of Kannadigas deeply. Kamal Haasan There is a senior actor who has acted in many Kannada films and is aware of the language. This does not give him any credit for speaking in this way.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah also weighed, saying that Kannada has a long and well -written history. “Poor Kamal Haasan, he is just unaware of this,” he commented.
