Communal tension and 10 people have been arrested due to the discovery of suspected cattle near the premises of a temple in Dhubri city in western Assam.
District officials said the situation was brought under control by Tuesday afternoon. However, a cabinet minister in the BJP government of Assam has called the issue “symptoms” of “Counting of Counting of India”. Dhubri district is located on the state border with Bangladesh.
According to Dhubari DC Dibakar Nath, tension began on Sunday with the discovery of suspected “cow meat” near the premises of a Hanuman temple in Dhubri city. On Monday, demonstrations were held in the city and later they moved the stone layer. The police used tear gas to disperse the mob and bring the situation under control.
On Monday night, the district administration gave prohibitory orders in the entire Dhubri Town, stating that communal tension, riot risk, violent protests, etc. due to communal tension, violent protests, etc. are likely to violate peace and public peace in areas falling under the jurisdiction of Dhubri police station. The administration had ordered the closure of all the shops and markets in the city, rejecting the assembly of more than five people in any public areas, and banned any rallies or demonstrations.
DC Nath told The Indian Express that by Tuesday evening the situation had stabilized and the prohibitive orders were withdrawn.

“Things have come under control with prohibitory orders and adequate deployment of police and CRPF, and we are able to cancel the order this afternoon. We have formed peace committees in all important areas and attach to the community through them. Ten people have been arrested and investigated,” he said.
This development has also led to a political discourse, Assam Cabinet Minister Ashok Singhal said in a post on X: “What is happening in Dhubri today, not suddenly. It is not a sudden result of decades of ignorant pattern, deliberate policies and political silence of the Indian National Congress. The destruction of Hindu faith and our life is a serious threat to India.
