Following his comment on Operation Sindoor, Madhya Pradesh Tribal Welfare Minister Vijay Shah made his first public appearance in 17 days when he visited a rape-killing family in Khandwa.
Shah was booked by the Madhya Pradesh Police last month after saying at a public meeting in a public meeting in Mhow on 11 May that India taught a lesson to those responsible for the Pahalgam terror attack using “their sister”. While he did not name anyone, it has been alleged that he was going to Colonel Sophia Qureshi, who informed the media during Operation Sindoor.
The ministers are now investigating by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) ordered by the Supreme Court, and was not publicly seen until May 28, when he visited a woman’s grieved family, which was gangrarap and murdered in Khalwa area of Khandwa district.
Both the Madhya Pradesh High Court and the Supreme Court have reprimanded the minister for their statement, and Shah has apologized for three times.
The ruling BJP went into damage control mode, and the party’s central leadership remains to call on Shah’s future.

While his visit to Khandwa on May 28, his first public outing has been identified since the backlash, he did not talk to the media. Local BJP sources said that Shah spent more than two hours with the victim’s family and promised both financial assistance and systemic intervention. Sources said that they allegedly gave a check of Rs 60,000, which is committed to creating a tin roof for the family house, and promised further financial assistance.
A BJP leader said, “He also said that a young girl in the family who was out of school will be re -included. Monthly surveillance meetings are to be started to track the school dropout.”

During this period, Shah left a special cabinet meeting at the historic Rajwada Palace to convince the regional icon, Ahilibai Holkar on 20 May and another special cabinet meeting was hosted in the scenic city of Pachmi on Tuesday, to honor the tribal icon and Freedom Fighter, Raja Bhubhta.
Shah also left the events of Ahilibai Holkar’s 300th birth anniversary, for which Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached Bhopal on 31 May.
The Supreme Court has extended the operation of its interim order to save Shah from arrest. It also stopped the proceedings of Suu Motu pending before the Madhya Pradesh High Court as it has already seized the case.
