The Chhattisgarh cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai, on Friday approved an authority for the establishment of an authority for the planned development of the State Capital Region (SCR) in Chhattisgarh, which was one of the 20 major promises made by the BJP before the 2023 assembly elections.
SCR will connect Raipur city to two major cities – New Raipur (26 km) in Rapur district and Bhilai City (32.6 km away) in Durg district.
“With an estimated population of about 50 lakhs in the region by 2031, the authority will ensure efficient land use, environmental protection and sustainable urban development in the region by 2031.
The state cabinet also approved the draft of Chhattisgarh Agricultural Produce Market (Amendment) Bill, 2025, under which farmers can sell their produce online through the Central Government’s e-Nam portal.
“Traders outside Chhattisgarh can also buy crops without registering in the state. This means more traders will be included, and farmers will have more options.” The official said, “Many farmers like Bastar, Surguja, Kankar and Korea are facing difficulties in reaching the mandis in tribal areas of Chhattisgarh. But now, they can sell their crops using mobile phones,” the official said.
