2024 After his recent allegations about the conduct of the Maharashtra assembly elections, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has written to the Lok Sabha leader of opposition Rahul Gandhi, inviting him to meet a three -member panel to discuss any “issues”, while election is held according to election laws. The Congress said that it would send a proper response to the letter within a day or two.
On June 7, citing a piece of Gandhi’s opinion in the Indian Express, in which he questioned the release of electoral rolls, voter voting data and CCTV footage of elections, EC wrote him on 12 June.
“… similar issues were raised by the Indian National Congress (INC) after the assembly elections in November 2024. The Commission gave a detailed answer to INC on 24 December 2024 … All elections were strictly done by the Election Commission of India, according to the election laws made by the election laws made by the Election Commission of India, according to the instructions issued by the ECI from time to time.”
It states that elections are held in a decentralized manner at the level of assembly constituencies. In the case of Maharashtra, EC said it had appointed 1,00,186 booth-level officers, 288 election registration officers, 139 general supervisors, 41 police supervisors, 71 expenditure supervisors and 288 returning officers. In addition, political parties appointed 1,08,026 of their booth-level agents, of which 28,421 belonged to Congress.
“We believe that any issue about the operation of elections will be raised through election petitions filed in the court of law already competent by Inc.
In a piece of his opinion, Gandhi reiterated his earlier allegations of “fake” voters being added to 2024 Maharashtra assembly elections and alleged “match-fixing”.
Speaking to the Indian Express on Tuesday, Congress leader and eight -member strong action group of leaders and experts (EAGL) Praveen Chakraborty said that the Congress will send a proper response to the letter within a day or two.
“A letter was written by a secretary in the Secretariat in the Election Commission of India at a secretariat. It was a before the Air India flight accident in Ahmedabad. The letter is being reviewed and the appropriate people within the party will be replied in a day or two. There is a meeting of the Eagle Committee on Wednesday and a press briefing will be organized by the US.”
The eight -member eagle was formed by the Congress in February this year to keep the “bird’s eye view” and “monitoring independent and fair elections by the Election Commission of India”. Eagle reported to the Lok Sabha leader of opposition Rahul Gandhi.
