J&K Anti -Corruption Bureau on Saturday said that it had allegedly arrested a tehsildar for a demand of Rs 1 lakh, as a bribe has been given from a Handwara resident to permission to demolish walnut trees.
A statement by the ACB said that the complainant accused Ghulam Rasool Bhat, Tehsildar, Kralgund of taking Rs 50,000 as advance and still did not issue permission to cut trees. The complainant said that he told the revenue officer that he could not pay the money, but the Tehsildar insisted on full payment.
Stating that a prudent investigation was initiated in the case, the statement said that after the verification of the facts, a case was registered against the Tehsildar and his Tout Rafi Ahmed Lone.
An ACB team caught two people and during the discovery of the Tehsildar’s premises, recovered Rs 50,000 allegedly paid by the complainant, besides another bundle of Rs 79,000.
The agency said that the accused was produced before a court, which sent him to police custody for seven days.

In another case, ACB arrested a police head constable, Roshan Deen, who ran away after taking bribes.
The agency said that DIN had demanded Rs 15,000 from the complainant to remove his name from the list of accused in an FIR that former had given CCTV footage and appearance in the factory on the date of the incident to prove his innocence.

However, accepting the bribe from the complainant, DIN felt the presence of ACB officials on the spot and fled, the agency said, he said that he threw money in the bushes on the national highway near Palli. The agency said the money was recovered by independent witnesses and seized by the authorities.
The ACB said that Din was posted at Kathua police station.
