Kavinder Gupta takes oath as New Ladakh LG

Senior BJP leader Kavinder Gupta on Friday sworn in as President Draupadi Murmu, four days after he appointed him to a constitutional post, was sworn in as the new Lieutenant Governor (LG) of the center region of Ladakh.

Officials said.

Chief Secretary Pawan Kotwal read the warrant of appointment of Gupta by President Dupadi Murmu.

He is the third Lieutenant Governor of the central region and succeeds Brigadier BD Mishra, who took over as LG of the Central Region on February 19, 2024. Mishra made RK Mathur a success, appointed as the first LG of Ladakh in 2019, which was later after Jammu and Kashir.

President Murmu on Monday appointed the new Lieutenant Governor Gupta of Ladakh.

Gupta has held several major positions in the past, in the government and within his party.

He was the Deputy Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir for 51 days in 2018 during the BJP-PDP government. He left the post when the BJP withdrew its support from the Mehboba Mufti-Left government.

From Zanjipur area of Jammu City, 66 -year -old Gupta has worked as a record three times in a rice three times from 2005 to 2010 as Jammu mayor. He also worked as the general secretary of the BJP’s state unit and led the J&K unit of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morch (BJYM) from 1993 to 1993.

Gupta was first elected as an MLA from Gandhi Nagar constituency, defeating Congress minister Raman Bhalla in the 2014 assembly elections.

After the victory of the PDP-BJP alliance in those elections, Gupta was unanimously elected as the President of the House.

Gupta, who also worked as the secretary of the first Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), spent about 13 months in prison during the Emergency as a Rashturia Swayamsevak Union (RSS) worker.
