The CPIM-led Kerala government made a strong objection to ‘Pada Puja’ (foot-washing ceremony) organized in various CBSE-affiliated schools in India, which was held in various CBSE-condemned schools run by the recruitment Vidyikathan (BVN), Governor Rajendra Arlekar said that “Guru Pooja is part of our culture”.
On Thursday, the schools run by the Sangh Parivar -backed trusts, marking the Guru Purnima (Vyas Jayas) celebrations, conducted the ‘Parivar Puja’, asking the students to wash the feet of the teachers and offer flowers on their feet.
The scene of students washing the feet of the teachers staged a protest in the state.
General Education Minister V Shivkutty directed the Director General of Education to investigate the incident. Sivankutty said that ‘Parishadi’ was against democratic values.
