A member of the Central Committee of the Band Communist Party of India (MAOIST) was identified as Sudhakar, killed in an encounter, which broke into Indravati National Park in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh between security forces and Maoists on Thursday morning.
A joint team of security forces began an encounter launched after an operation started on the basis of specific intelligence about the presence of senior Maoist cadres in the region.
On May 21, Nambla Keshav Rao, Nambla Keshav Rao, aka Baswa Raju, in an encounter with 27 other people in the forests of Abujamad area of Narayanpur district, come after about a fortnight.
Indravati National Park has seen two other major encounters between Maoists and security forces this year. On 9 February, two security forces personnel and 31 Maoists were killed in an encounter in the National Park. Earlier, on 12 January, five Maoists, including two women, were killed in an encounter with security forces.
In August 2023, sources in the security forces told The Indian Express that the Maoist National Park, Abujamad and Kankar-Naraipur were recruiting new cadre near inter-district border Maharashtra. The fresh recruitments are also being trained in the national park, stating that they were using drones to track security forces.
Security forces have been trying to free the Maoists’ national park sector since then. In addition, they want to build a bridge over the Indravati River that will combine both states and help promote economic activities.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah has fixed March 2026 to eradicate the Left extremism (LWE) from India. Till this year there are 202 Maoists among the security forces, 185 of which were in Bastar region alone – Bijapur is a part of Bastar region. This year, the death of 17 security personnel has also been observed in attacks by Maoists.
