Indian Railways has announced New rules for booking tatkal tickets For passengers, starting from July 1, 2025. Only those users who have certified their account using Aadhaar will be able to book Tatkal tickets from today.

“With an impact from 01.07.2025, tickets under the Tatakal Scheme can be booked only by Aadhaar certified users through the website of Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC)/its app. Later, Aadhaar-based OTP authentication will be issued from 15.07.2025. The rules of the counter ticketing system will be implemented by 15 July, 2025.
The Center for Railway Information Systems (CRIS), the technical wing of Indian Railways, and IRCTC were asked to make necessary amendments in the system as per the information for all zonal railway.

What are the new rules for booking Tatkal tickets?
Users, identified with Aadhaar, can book TATKAL tickets using the official website of IRCTC or mobile app.
According to a senior Railway Ministry official, “Account holders who associate their accounts with Aadhaar will get priority booking during the first 10 -minute tatal ticket sale.”

When will the rules apply?
The new rules for Tatkal reservation through online ticket booking system will be applicable from July 1, 2025.
From July 15, 2025, Aadhaar-based OTP certification will be compulsory for online tattle booking through online as well as passenger reservation system (PRS) counters and authorized agents.

Why has the Ministry brought in new rules?
The proposal of the E-Aadhaar certification system is part of the campaign against the use of automated equipment to book tickets online.
The new rules will strengthen the ticketing process and will compete with fraud by compulsory for e-orders for reservation.
So far, the Railways has passed and stopped more than 24 million users in the last six months, and about 2 million accounts have been marked as suspects and are being investigated, according to a ministry official.

How will IRCTC agents be affected due to new rules?
Under the new rules, authorized IRCTC agents are not allowed to book within 30 minutes of opening of booking for AC as well as non-AC travel classes.
This means that agents will not be allowed to book tatal tickets for air-conditioned classes from 10 am to 10.30 am and non-air air-conditioned classes from 11 am to 11.30 am.
