Union Environment Minister Bhupendra Yadav on Saturday reiterated the concerns of the questions and privatization raised by Congress leader Jeram Ramesh about the Delhi Zoo and the Center-run establishment and an agreement proposed between Reliance-Nines Greens Zoological, Rescue and Rehabilitation Center (GZRRC).
In a post on the social media platform X, Yadav said that the National Zoological Park (NZP), which is run by the Center, signed a memorandum (MOU) with GZRC located in Jamnagar, Gujarat in January 2021, and NZP has sought to modify the current MO. He said that NZP has signed MUS with various organizations working in wildlife management in the past as part of its modernization drive and will continue to do so.
Responding to Ramesh’s post, Yadav said, “Some people have made a habit of creating doubts in the mind of every example.” On June 4, Ramesh said that while the government “claims that it is not a management transfer, its previous record does not motivate confidence. Is this the first step towards handing over the zoo to a private enterprise?”
Yadav said that between NZP and GZRRC, 2021 mOU focused on animal exchange, capacity building, animal keepers, technical exchange on animal scientific management and sharing knowledge on conservation reproduction and conservation breeding and education.

The Central Zoo Authority approved the GZRCC in February 2019, and was given an initial recognition in August 2020.
