The friction between the elected governments of Jammu and Kashmir and Raj Bhavan has come out in the open. Taking Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, which seems to be the first direct conflict since his government was elected last year, senior national conference leader and Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Chaudhary accused him of “running a proxy government” in Jammu and Kashmir.
Without taking the name, Chaudhary said that if someone thinks that he can “crush the mandate of the people” then it will not be allowed because “the government is not scared and is ready to fight for the people”.
This is the first direct attack on LG Sinha by the National Conference Government. While Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is still spreading carefully, Chaudhary’s arrow has brought friction between the elected government and Raj Bhavan.
While the transfer of officers is a bone of dispute between Raj Bhavan and the elected government, it is not clear what was the immediate trigger for Chaudhary’s arrow against LG Sinha.
Chaudhary said, “He should understand that he is playing with the Constitution of India.”

Chaudhary then accused the BJP of running “Proxy Sarkar” through LG Sinha and demanded the return of the state to Jammu and Kashmir.
The government, Chaudhary said, will take the streets to the streets if needed.

“(If) someone thinks that he will be able to crush the mandate of those elected in democracy, then he will not be able to do so. What harm they would do – those who are protected by God and people who have voted for us,” said the Deputy Chief Minister.
Chaudhary said, “Don’t think that we will be afraid … we are not afraid. We are to fight.”
It was expected that LT governors would accept the mandate of the people, Chaudhary said.
The NC leader said, “But it seems that some things are not getting correct and when such action is taken, it is a transfer or something, then do not celebrate it as some kind of bravery. He should think that he is crushing India’s democracy.”
