Officials said two Indian migrant workers were killed in the West African country of Niger and another kidnapping was done after the terrorist attack on their functioning on Tuesday.
A state government official said that one of the deceased workers was from Ganesh Karmali, 39, Bokaro district of Jharkhand. Others have been identified only as Krishnan from the state of southern India, a Jharkhand worker said that those who are working on the repatriation of bodies.
Activist, Sikander Ali claimed that the kidnapped activists were Ranjit Singh from Jammu and Kashmir.
The Indian Embassy in Niger confirmed death and kidnapping in a post on X, but did not share the details. “In a heinous terrorist attack on July 15 in the Doso region of Niger, two Indian citizens lost their lives and one was abducted. Karmali was working on a transmission line in Doso City when he was caught in a crossfire between the local police and the militant group that started the attack. He died on the spot, the state officials have learned.

According to Karmali’s family, his brother -in -law Premal Karmali also worked on the same site and maintained bullet injuries. He is currently under police protection in Niger, as well as looking for four other migrant workers from Jharkhand who are safe and to return home.
Karmali, a resident of Karipani village under Tilaiya Person in Gomia block, was employed by a India -based company Transiil Lighting Limited, which works as power transmission projects abroad. He had been working in Doso for almost a year.

Under the Labor Department, Shikha Laxma, head of the control room of the state migrant workers, confirmed the incident and said: “The matter is being controlled by the Indian Embassy in Niger. The body has already been detained by the embassy, and an objection certificate has been received from the family.”
He said: “He died in the crossfire. His brother -in -law was also injured, but is safe and in security. The remaining four workers from Jharkhand are safe and want to return. We have started the official process and have written to the embassy.”
Lakra said that the State Labor Department is coordinating with the Ministry of External Affairs Intense Reporting of the body.
Sapna Kumari, a 20 -year -old daughter of Ganesh Karmali, said that her father had assured the family that her company’s insurance cover was worth Rs 40 lakh. “But now the contractor is saying that they will give us only 12 lakh rupees. Before I can reach the house too, they received the documents signed by us under pressure,” he said.

He said, “We have not been directly contacted by the company. Only the contractor is talking to us. We just want justice and to return my father’s body with dignity,” he said, shedding tears.
Sapna, who got married earlier this month on July 2, said that her father did not attend the wedding, but promised to come on July 20. “I have a two -year -old brother and a four -year -old sister. My mother Yashoda Devi is in shock,” she said.
Local activist Ali visited the family and said: “I was told that the company was pressurizing them not to share any information.”
On April 25 this year, the workers of Jharkhand were caught in a crossfire between police forces and hundreds of armed militants on motorbikes in Niger. Trying to escape from the scene, five workers were kidnapped by the group.
