Congress leaders Mallikrajun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to give a full state to Jammu and Kashmir to press for a law in the upcoming monsoon session of Parliament.
The Leader of Opposition in the two houses of Parliament – Kharge is omitted in the Rajya Sabha and Gandhi is omitted in the Lok Sabha – he also called the government to bring a law to include the center area of Ladakh under the sixth program of the Constitution.
In his joint letter to Modi, Kharge and Gandhi said that for the last five years, people from the center region of Jammu and Kashmir have constantly called for the restoration of the entire state.
He said that this demand is both legitimate and strongly in his constitutional and democratic rights.
“It is important to identify that when the regions of the state are being given the state in the past, the case of Jammu-Jammu and Kashmir is without example in independent India. This is the first time that a full state is downgrade in a center area after its bilateral,” the letter stated in the letter.

“Your good people, on several occasions, reiterated the government’s commitment to the state personally. In your interview in Bhubaneswar on 19 May 2024, you said: ‘The restoration of the state is an important promise that we have created and we are standing by it. Two leaders said.
The Central Government has also given equal assurance before the Supreme Court in Article 370 case, stating that the state would be “as soon as possible and as soon as possible”, he said.

Kharge and Gandhi said, “In view of the predecessor and the aforesaid, we urge the government to provide a full state to the center region of Jammu and Kashmir to bring forward a law in the upcoming monsoon session of Parliament.”
“In addition, we request that the government bring further laws to include the center area of Ladakh under the sixth program of the Constitution,” he said.
This would be an important step towards addressing the cultural, developmental and political aspirations of the people of Ladakh, while protecting their rights, land and identity, Kharge and Gandhi and Gandhi said.
This letter comes a day later when the top leadership of the Congress decided to raise issues such as special intensive amendment (SIR) of the election role in Bihar, the restoration of the full state against women against women in the country during the monsoon session starting on July 21.
